mlab-tests-octave-ext

The groupant beside mlab/tests/octave_ext.rs in the Mova repository: what the code computes, what it never does, how to go back from its outputs, its invariants, cost and checks.

Facts

Implementation material. A Mova code model describes this code at one source revision: partial models, finite checks and their stated scope. It is not a reviewed general exposition, and its labels are shown as written, never raised.

Obernants

The typed relations around the forward model: the behaviour complement (what the code never does), the reverse reconstruction (every input compatible with an output) and specialised views.

Model text

descriptant

mlab-tests-octave-ext

External Octave test extraction, lexical scope filter and subprocess report harness; only synthetic extraction helpers run here.

Modeling epoch โ€” 2026-10-31

Prospective source read preceded edits. Bounded synthetic checks and selected existing safe tests exercise actual code; paired debug/release results and compiled negative-control assertions are retained externally. Frozen scenario, corpus, external measurement, full-school and training effects are unexecuted. Partial lexical syntax supplies no macro-expanded or semantic proof.

approximant

Forward relation

files recursively sorts candidate m/cc paths. blocks collects column-zero %! directives with shared initialization and accumulated functions; calls/assigned approximate builtin scope. Ignored measurement launches timeout per selected block and classifies hang/crash/error/assert/pass.

Domain

Valid Rust value/storage invariants and available bounded resources; exact branch and effect observations only.

Executable approximant gap

No useful percentage-error surrogate is established for these categorical, textual or effectful observations. Supported future caps are 1%, 2%, 5%, 10%; no executable approximation or production substitution is claimed.

invariant

Invariants and costs

Current synthetic checks invoke blocks/calls/assigned only. No OCTAVE_TESTS/OCTAVE_OUT corpus discovery, subprocess measurement or external data is used.

Failure ordering

Directory read failure returns silently, file read defaults empty. timeout124 takes precedence over crash then expected-error then normal success/assert/error. Process launch errors panic.

Cost

Helper scans O(text bytes) plus accumulated prefix copies; external traversal and per-block subprocess limit ten seconds are unexecuted effects. Output memory grows with report rows.

composition

Composition

files recursively sorts candidate m/cc paths. blocks collects column-zero %! directives with shared initialization and accumulated functions; calls/assigned approximate builtin scope. Ignored measurement launches timeout per selected block and classifies hang/crash/error/assert/pass.

Scope names use HashSet membership; files sorted before processing. Expected-error pattern/id is stripped without matching actual error text.

block-extraction

Group %! lines by known directive; shared replaces initialization, completed function appends definition, assert/test/error append blocks with current prefixes. Error strips id= and angle-bracket pattern.

Boundary: Produced kind distinguishes Assert/Test/Error; no implementation evaluation or external file read in helper.

Interaction limit

Local fragment relations compose only with valid Value storage, caller error propagation and delegated providers. They do not establish whole-interpreter or host-filesystem guarantees.

models

Typed models โ€” mlab-tests-octave-ext

Source-derived partial relations; finite checks do not prove universality.

behavior_complement

Non-column-zero %! excludes extraction. Unknown directives exclude ordinary test output. Calls filter excludes double-quoted text but does not exclude all comments or single-quoted strings; it is no parser proof.

reverse_reconstruction

Same blocks admit arbitrary non-%! implementation text and ignored directives; same call-name set admits many syntactic forms. Report status cannot reconstruct process stderr, only truncated first-error detail survives.

state_invariant

Current synthetic checks invoke blocks/calls/assigned only. No OCTAVE_TESTS/OCTAVE_OUT corpus discovery, subprocess measurement or external data is used.

failure_precedence

Directory read failure returns silently, file read defaults empty. timeout124 takes precedence over crash then expected-error then normal success/assert/error. Process launch errors panic.

representation_transport

Scope names use HashSet membership; files sorted before processing. Expected-error pattern/id is stripped without matching actual error text.

resource_cost

Helper scans O(text bytes) plus accumulated prefix copies; external traversal and per-block subprocess limit ten seconds are unexecuted effects. Output memory grows with report rows.

tests

Evidence and limitations

Selected named outcomes: wave30_synthetic_selection_helpers. Each ran twice debug and twice release with sorted identical nonempty outcomes and numeric exit 0. Source-specific compiled control exercised "wave30_synthetic_selection_helpers": compile exit 0, assertion-red exit 101, exact-restored rerun exit 0. External receipts: octopus-wave30-io-2026-10-31 (native-commands.json, positive-receipts.json, controls.json).

Scope: Current synthetic checks invoke blocks/calls/assigned only. No OCTAVE_TESTS/OCTAVE_OUT corpus discovery, subprocess measurement or external data is used.

AST projection generated twice to fresh files and compared byte-for-byte. Runtime evidence is finite and does not establish every branch, allocation failure, backend implementation or effect path. No optimization or speed claim.
